Apprentice, Aiden Morley

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we asked our newly promoted Apprentice, Aiden Morley, about his experience as an Apprentice with BSP Tex Ltd, part of the Tex Group.
Now at 22, having just completed his four-year apprenticeship in Machining at West Suffolk College, Aiden is now a fully qualified Machinist, working on manual and CNC machines across a broad product range of piling equipment, road maintenance equipment and specialist trailers.
After studying for his Level 3 Engineering qualification at Sixth Form, Aiden joined us as an 18-year-old apprentice. We asked him about his experience and he said, “I really enjoyed doing my apprenticeship and I learned a lot, both at the college and at work, because I put what I learned into practice.” He went on to say, “It’s been great to learn the theory side of engineering through my course at college, but what I have enjoyed most is the hands-on practical work.” Aiden said the combination of theory and practical learning, with the addition of knowledge from his experienced engineering colleagues, has helped him to develop his understanding and build a strong skillset. He told us he enjoys working here, that there is always someone to ask and his more experienced colleagues are always willing to help guide him as he continues developing his career.
Aiden has a long-standing interest in manufacturing and engineering; at the age of 14 he tells us he read an article in the paper about the lack of engineers in the UK and that is when he decided to pursue a career in engineering. He said “I always liked building and fixing things, and when I was younger, I was often taking things apart to find out how they worked;” he went on to joke that he was always more interested in how his toys worked, than actually playing with them.
Outside work, at home, Aiden enjoys gaming, has an interest in the Sci-fi and horror movie genre; he also has a passion for travel, has visited the USA several times and plans to visit Japan next year, which has been a lifelong ambition for him.
We are delighted that Aiden has chosen to stay on with us post-apprenticeship. He is a valuable member of the team, and he tells us he plans to stay with the company for the long-term future.
